The Release Management team coordinates activities related to solution deployments including any or all of hardware, software, and application code.


The Release Manager is responsible for developing and managing the technical release plans for all environments across all active and planned projects (Development, ITF, UAT, and PROD). Responsibilities also include developing and managing the code branching and merging strategies for each project and code release.

This is a hands-on IT role. This person must possess a strong software development skill set, excellent negotiation and project management skills and have proven success in continuous process improvement.

This role requires the ability to interact with cross-functional teams aligning the project schedules.

Essential Tasks

  • Identifying, scoping, coordinating and managing software releases to multiple test and production environments
  • Interacting with project and functional teams to determine release requirements
  • Managing risks and resolving conflicts and issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality of each deployment
  • Identifying, documenting and implementing release process improvements
  • Expanding Release Management processes to additional teams to assure the software can be delivered in an automated and secure manner
  • Measuring and monitoring progress to ensure application releases are delivered on time and within budget, and that they meet or exceed expectations
  • Communicating release activities and issues to the appropriate teams
  • Interacting with other teams to identify and coordinate dependencies between systems
  • Scheduling and conducting production deployment planning, implementation and post-release meetings
  • Ability to create Release Management plans using standard Office platform software, including MS Project and MS Visio
  • Provide Best Practices regarding release packaging, documentation, testing & certification principles, and negotiating signoff with stakeholders
  • Ability to escalate and manage schedules and resolve conflicts between and among client departments and/or third-party resources.

Primary Skills

Must have


  • Bachelor's Degree or Masters in Computer Science, IT or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Release Manager
  • Knowledge of product and system development lifecycles (PDLC/SDLC) and release processes
  • Strong oral and written communication skills along with excellent interpersonal, leadership, presentation and collaborative skills to work effectively with teams throughout organization
  • Excellent project management skills with strong analytical and independent reasoning abilities
  • Ability to manage and coordinate many tasks simultaneously
  • Very organized and detail oriented
  • Off hour and on-call support required

Secondary Skills

  • ITIL IPRC (ITIL Practitioner for Release and Control) certification highly desired
  • PMI PMP (Project Management Professional) certification desired
  • Ability to "think big" and grasp the overall picture, including the business drivers
  • Experience in a healthcare, insurance, or government environment
