BATON ROUGE, LA – July 26, 2012 – Stephen B. Walker, M.D. has been recognized with the Certified Healthcare Insurance Executive (CHIE) designation – an America’s Health Insurance Plans Foundation fellowship. America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) is the national trade association representing the health insurance industry. Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University serves as the program’s academic partner.

Walker, M.D. has been recognized with the Certified Healthcare Insurance Executive (CHIE) designation – an America’s Health Insurance Plans Foundation fellowship. America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) is the national trade association representing the health insurance industry. Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University serves as the program’s academic partner. The CHIE fellowship program is an endorsement of quality, comprehensive continuing education and professional development recognized throughout the health insurance plan community.

 

Dr. Walker is Corporate Chief Medical Officer for CNSI, a leading business solutions provider that delivers high quality, innovative solutions in health care, government IT, defense and enterprise mobility to help clients accomplish their missions and improve business performance.

 

Included in CNSI’s IT portfolio is the development and implementation of the leading, web-centric Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS) that are currently in place in the states of Maine, Michigan and Washington. CNSI was awarded the contract to design and manage the new MMIS now under development in Louisiana.

 

In his capacity as CNSI’s chief medical officer, Walker oversees clinical affairs, including evidence-based medical policy, in the states where CNSI manages the Medicaid information systems. He oversees all medical management activities, quality assurance, patient experience and provider relations. Walker also serves as the company’s clinical thought leader in applicable health care-related IT services that CNSI provides to the federal, military and commercial health markets.

 

Walker has more than 27 years of experience in health care, including private clinical practice, health plans and state Medicaid. His executive positions include Medicaid Medical Director for Department of Health and Hospitals of Louisiana, Medical Director for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, Medical Director for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana and Clinical Regional Medical Director for United Healthcare. He also founded a network of clinic services, Occupational Medical Center, which successfully merged with Concentra Health Services.

 

Walker has a history of achievements in designing and implementing new care delivery models that help empower physicians with actionable health information for coordinating care and population health. With CNSI’s leading health information technologies and expertise, Dr. Walker helps bring innovative opportunities in improving quality and reducing unnecessary costs across health care delivery systems.

Walker holds a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry from Louisiana Tech University. He earned his medical doctorate and performed post-graduate training in internal medicine at Louisiana State University School of Medicine. He earned a master of public health degree from Medical College of Wisconsin and a master of business administration degree from Louisiana State University College of Business. Dr. Walker also earned a master of science degree in biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University. He completed a residency in environmental occupational medicine from Emory University School of Medicine.

 

Walker is board-certified in occupational medicine (American College of Preventive Medicine) by the American Board of Medical Specialties. Other postgraduate medical training includes medical genetics from Yale University School of Medicine.
