CNSI wins two year extension for Operations & Maintenance of Michigan’s Medicaid System

GAITHERSBURG, MD. – CNSI announced today that its contract to manage operations and maintenance of Michigan’s Community Health Automated Medicaid Processing System, CHAMPS, has been extended for two years. CNSI successfully designed, then implemented CHAMPS in September 2009 for the Michigan Department of Community Health, providing a seamless transition from the previous system. Since then, CNSI has continued to process claims virtually error free. Earlier this summer the state completed certification of the upgraded system by the U.S.

GAITHERSBURG, MD. – CNSI announced today that its contract to manage operations and maintenance of Michigan’s Community Health Automated Medicaid Processing System, CHAMPS, has been extended for two years. CNSI successfully designed, then implemented CHAMPS in September 2009 for the Michigan Department of Community Health, providing a seamless transition from the previous system. Since then, CNSI has continued to process claims virtually error free. Earlier this summer the state completed certification of the upgraded system by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which ensures continued federal funding for CHAMPS. “This error-free certification milestone was a clear testament of CNSI’s exceptional Medicaid technology platform, eCAMS, and the strong working partnership our team established with Michigan’s DCH personnel, ” said Sharif Hussein, CNSI’s vice president who manages the project in Lansing, Mich.

While continuing to manage the Medicaid Management Information Services (MMIS) operations and maintenance for the state, CNSI is working with Michigan on several other health care reform initiatives stemming from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and other regulatory compliance issues. “Besides CHAMPS, our scope of work includes implementation and management of the CMS-initiated Medicaid Electronic Health Records Incentive Program, as well as getting the state’s MMIS ready for HIPAA 5010 compliance by January 1, 2012, ” Hussein said. “We are also working on the platform technology for the Southeast Michigan Health Information Exchange that was recently selected by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology for its interoperability showcase.” CNSI is in discussions with Michigan regarding the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) regulatory compliance. CNSI has formulated the ICD-10 strategy for the state and is currently conducting the assessment phase utilizing proprietary methodology aimed at meeting a compliance target of October 2013.”
